The Annapolis Chorale and Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of
J.
Ernest Green, offers a concert of uplifting and transforming “Music for the Heart” on Saturday, March 8, at 8 p.m. at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church. Like the Chorale’s December performances of “Messiah,” this concert features choral singing at its best in the form of Gabriel Faure’s matchless “Requiem” partnered with modern composer Morten Laurisden’s lushly beautiful “Lux Aeterna.” Intensely personal, hopeful and powerful, these two pieces offer solace, hope and salvation through music. Joining the Chorale for this concert are soprano Carolene Winter, baritone James Rogers, organist Larry Molinaro and members of the Annapolis Youth Chorus.
Also on the program is Estonian composer Arvo Pärt’s “Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten,” which will be performed by the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra. Portions of this piece have been featured in many films and documentaries. Described by the composer as being like “light going through a prism,” this piece is a musical meditation on death and resurrection.
Music Director J. Ernest Green will give a pre-concert talk at 7 p.m. in the church.
