A message from Music Director J. Ernest Green:

We’ve had a wonderful season thus far and I want to thank everyone who has attended our concerts and supported what we do.

As we move through the second half of our season, we have decided to make a schedule change that affects The Annapolis Chorale’s April 4 concert.  We originally planned to present J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion on that date.  However, given the state of the economy, I have decided to move that piece to a future date and we will instead present Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas on April 4.

I made this difficult decision in consultation with the Live Arts Maryland Board.  After a review of the expense involved in presenting the St. Matthew Passion, we decided that the fiscally responsible course of action was to present a piece of equal artistic value but one with a lower production cost.

I had originally planned to do Dido and Aeneas next season because it is one of my favorite stage works and 2009 is an anniversary year for Purcell (he was born in 1659).   Joining our Annapolis Chorale Chamber Chorus and the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra for this concert is a wonderful cast that includes Shouvik Mondle and Fatinah Tilfah.  Dido and Aeneas premiered 320 years ago this spring and remains timely and very entertaining as we move from a shipwreck in Carthage to a witches cave to the final departure of Aeneas, who has to leave to found Rome (I bet you wondered how this happened!).

Be assured that we will honor all tickets on April 4 and there is no need to replace any you have already purchased as part of your season subscription or for this concert alone.

Thank you for your understanding as we proceed through a very difficult economic time for everyone and for the arts in particular.  Please know that we are as committed as ever to performing and presenting the best music possible and will continue to do so.

Yours,
J. Ernest Green
