Young Artists In Residence Program
About The "MusicWorks" Educational Program - Scholarships - Young Artists

For 32 years, The Annapolis Chorale has enabled singers of all ages to experience the joy and growth that comes from music. These singers, in turn, return that joy to the communities around them. Those who are blessed with the gift of a beautiful voice spend years training and developing that gift so they may share it with others. It requires an enormous amount of time, dedication and discipline to reach professional status. Even then, success isn't a guarantee. The realities of working in a chosen career are often as rigorous and demanding as the vocal training and study required reaching that goal.

The Chorale's Young Artist/Artist in Residence Program provides professional experience for emerging singers, to help bridge the gap between education and a professional career. Making the transition from student to professional musician can be traumatic enough to end a promising career. The Young Artists/Artist in Residence Program places young musicians with the Chorale for a performance season (typically September through April) enabling them to experience and participate in the business side of a professional singing career a little at a time, while allowing them to continue to grow and develop as artists under the tutelage of the Music Director. This program offers a critical bridge from one phase of life to another.

Young Artists program participants are mentored by the Music Director, who will provide professional and artistic guidance during their tenure in the program. The Music Director will also expose participants to working with distinguished professionals in the music industry as they study, prepare and perform a wide variety of repertoire both for the stage and the concert hall. He or she may perform supporting roles in concert productions, perform excerpts of principal roles/solos in rehearsals and run-outs, perform as featured soloists in concert productions and perform in various donor, patron and community events. He or she may also serve as understudies for visiting guest artists, who may offer further guidance and assistance in career development. All of this professional and artistic growth occurs while the artist is in the secure and affirming environment of a season with the Annapolis Chorale.
